Gábor Simon -  A Short Biography

Gábor Simon studied English, German, French and Italian Literature and Lingustics and Japanese at the Universities of Basle and Zurich. He earned his translator’s diploma (English, German, Italian) at the School of Interpreters of Zurich (DOZ) in 1990. The following year he moved to Italy to study Performing Arts at D.A.M.S. (Discipline delle Arti, della Musica e dello Spettacolo) of the University of Bologna. In 1998 he graduated with highest honours presenting his dissertation “L’utilizzazione teatrale del tema di Melusina” under the guidance of professor and play director Arnaldo Picchi.

From 1999 to 2007 he first worked for CCS - Centro Culturale Svizzero di Milano (the Italian centre of Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia), then for ISR – Istituto Svizzero di Roma, creating, organizing, producing and coordinating events and projects of music and performing arts all over Italy.
From 2008 to July 2014 he was with Munich label ECM Records working in Production and in charge of Live Events, organizing music festivals and special concert projects such as the festival “Der blaue Klang” in Mannheim (within Enjoy Jazz Festival 2009) for the label’s 40-year jubilee, and the long concert series during the important exhibition “ECM – A Cultural Archaeology” at Haus der Kunst Munich (2012/13).
From November 2014 to March 2015 he was the ad interim artistic director and booker of Munich Jazzclub Unterfahrt.

In April 2015 he founded his own music booking agency Gábor Simon Konzertagentur (www.gaborsimonkonzert.de) representing both classical and jazz musicians.
From autumn 2017 till end of 2021 he also managed Italian pianist Stefano Bollani and his record label Alobar.
